NEW MURPHY BAND
|
Mustered by tuba
player Urmas Kõiv and his keyboard-wielding cohort Ülo Mälgand the original incarnation
of the New Murphs first showed its jolly countenance in public in 1991. An extension, in a
way, of the 1920-40s oriented and big band sized Modern Fox that Mr. Kõiv had previously
played in, New Murphy Band was created and groomed to re-create and re-popularise the pop
legacy of the 1950s and '60s. Inna dancee stylee! In 1992 the Murphs appeared on
Estonian TV; a year later they performed in Germany. Having consistently honed their act,
having featured a succession of vocalists first Airi Allvee, then briefly Siiri
Sisask, currently Taimi Alavere the band now rank as well-grounded veterans of the
retro-groove.
