In
Raivo Tafenau’s music, there is one source of inspiration that cannot be passed over
unmentioned – Miles Davis. Certainly, the shadow of the late great trumpeter has
touched innumerable musicians, from elderly to tender-aged, and the young Estonian

Having studied the clarinet at St. Petersburg and Tallinn
conservatories in the late 1980s, Meelis Vind (b. 1964) graduated from Tallinn
Conservatory in 1991. By that time he had worked for four years with the Estonian State
Symphony Orchestra, to the personnel of which he belongs to this day. Parallel to the
«day job», Meelis Vind plays contemporary compositions with the NYYD Ensemble and
performs jazz together with Raivo Tafenau.
Their duo is an on-going project from 1996, as is the
Raivo Tafenau Quintet that Meelis Vind is a member of.
