TALLINN YOUTH BIG BAND leader Teet Raik

Tallinn Youth Big Band is a real big band, and really young too. They played their first live date this March. The average age of the bandsmen – all of them students of the Estonian Academy of Music, the Georg Ots Music School or the Tallinn High School of Music – is eighteen years. It deserves to be pointed out, though, that what they might lack in the department of «heavy live-experience», they frequently make up in abundant enthusiasm for collective music making. Moreover, the band has attended the master-courses of the prominent Finnish bandleader Petri Juutilainen, and they have rehearsed under the guidance of the seasoned Estonian arranger Kustas Kikerpuu. The soloists of the Tallinn Youth Big Band are trumpeter Mihkel Metsala, saxophonist Ivo Lille and singer Ele Raik. The band's artistic director Teet Raik and the assistant conductor Mart Kivi both study at the Estonian Academy of Music. The band performs jazz standards and arrangements of Raimond Valgre's and Uno Naissoo's songs.
