Born 1967, Guadalcanal, Sevilla, Spain; raised in Cordoba.
After taking guitar lessons from Merenque De Cordoba,
Vicente, still in his teens, starts out as a professional musician.
His first major gig is with the legendary Spanish
bandleader Manolo Sanlucar; further engagements in José Merces, Luis De
Cordobas, Carmen Linaress backing bands as well as studio sessions for Wagner
Tiso, Miguel Bose, Nancho Cano and Tino di Geraldo follow in rapid succession.
Come the late 1980s, Vicente Amigo owns a number of
the most prestigious flamneco guitar prizes, those of La Unión (88),
Extremadura (88), and Cordobas XII National Concert of Flamenco Art (89)
Performing as David Bowies support act in 1990
secures Amigo the attention of a still larger audience.
Vicentes first solo album, De Mi Corazon al
Aire, appears in 1992 on Sony Music.
Amigos Flamenco Concert for a Sailor on Land,
premiered by the Cuban Symphony Orchestra under Leo Brouwers conductorship in 1992
in Cordoba, receives Spanish Radios «Oja Critico» award.
In 1993, Guitar Player magazine votes Amigo the best flamenco-guitarist.
In 1995 he performs live in Lisbon with John
McLaughlin, Al Di Meola and Paco De Lucia; the latter guests on Amigos album Viviciendas
Imaginadas.
Both in 1998 and 1999 he is pronounced the winner of
Spains Music Prize in the Best Flamenco Composer category.
