Nguyên Lê Geri Allen

The group led by African-American lady-drummer Terry Lyne Carrington comprises an international star-studded cast of five. – On piano, the singular Geri Allen. On sax, the amazingly versatile Gary Thomas. The Vietnamese multi-stylist Nguyên Lê is on guitar. And the highly dependable Lars Danielsson on bass. A genuinely unique configuration.

Mike
Stern

Propelling highly charged electric jazz, American guitarist Mike Stern – once a member of Miles Davis’ and of Randy Brecker’s numerous bands – remains a most powerful exponent of modern, rhythmically rapturous axe-craft.
Mike Stern’s appearance at Jazzkaar 2001 is one of the festival’s likeliest highlights. Not to be missed!

Django
Bates

Quiet Nights

The presenter of present-day British flavours at this year’s festivities, pianist-saxophonist Django Bates is a globally renowned representative of the UK jazz elite. Extensive of stylistic grasp and lively of stage manners, Bates & band are not to be missed.

Eliane
Elias

The trio led by superb pianist and vocalist Eliane Elias – and featuring Marc Johnson, electric bassist extraordinaire – will perform Elias’ original music and choice covers of bossa nova classics by Antonio Carlos Jobim. A lovely alliance of Braziliana and jazz lore, brimming with finesse and invention.

Joey
DeFrancesco

The earthy and exuberant sound of the venerable and vital Hammond B3 has adorned many a jazz style past and present, Acid or otherwise. And Joey De Francesco, he of ao. Miles Davis’ and John McLaughlin’s small groups fame, is a distinguished modern master of the Almighty B3 Groooooooove. …Should we say more? (Okay. If you insist.) Go get on the one, tune in and groove along like there’s no tomorrow.

Vicente
Amigo

Last spring, due to an unexpected health-mishap, Vicente Amigo’s no-show made us sorely miss him. This year, back in rude health, he’ll eventually come and reveal to us the flaming heart and burning soul of New Flamenco. Welcome!!!

Baron
Samedi

Indefatigable, percussive proponents of Gallic wit and Mediterranean warmth for the past ten years, Baron Samedi derive their noble moniker from the name of a Haitian Voodoo deity. (Or so our good Baron’s legend would have it. Anyway.) Their drum-driven pulses, peppered with various exotic ingredients and jazz, are ten times catchier than the snuffles – and ‘bout a hundred times healthier too.

Omar
Sosa

The energetic septet directed by Cuban pianist Omar Sosa impacts and ignites a musical mindblower distilled from the rainbow riches of Caribbean rhythms and the timeless energy of the ancient Yoruba tradition.
Furnished with sharpish jazz, HipHop and R&B elements, this makes for a genuinely explosive mixture.

Many are the sides to Jimi Tenor’s roguish personality; several are the styles that shape his resplendent musical collages. Schooled in his youth in classical flute and saxophone playing, nowadays this Flying Finn is one of the best-respected dance charmers, able of effortlessly juggling lounge-core and techno, jazz and exotica – at the speed of thought! At the Koloss Club he’s prone to move yer feet as well as stir yer mind.

An impressively mobile and efficient little task force – there’s 3 just of ‘em – who can effectively handle nigh anything between hypno-industrial jazz, tripped-out-hop and mellow slo-mo noise pop. And – you sure can dance to them. At the Koloss Club.
