The shining jazz star Billie Holiday’s art has greatly influenced and inspired jazz singers of the next generations. Her trademark was emotional melancholic voice and special phrasing. The film “Lady Sings the Blues” based on the singer’s autobiography, and where Holiday was played by Diana Ross, was released in 1972. In 2000 Billie Holiday was presented in Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Liisi Koikson, who has previously taken a bow to Joni Mitchell with a full length concert programme, now devotes a whole concert to the memory of the exceptional singer that is Billie Holiday. This April, it’s 100 years since Holiday was born.
