Gregoire Maret is one of the biggest harmonica virtuosos next to Toots Thielmansand Stevie Wonder, in 2005 he won a Grammy for a collaboration with Pat Metheny on the album The Way Up. After that he toored with MarcusMiller for two years and soon joined Herbie Hancock’s band. Now he’s the musical director for Cassandra Wilson’s band, who was one of the main artists at last spring’s Jazzkaar. Surely a splendid harmonica player like him could not remain unnoticed next to Cassandra Wilson. “When he puts the harmonica on his lips, we feel a powerful emotion instantly, which is really important in our music,“ Cassandra Wilson has said. Now Gregoire Maret is back in Estonia with his own band.
