16/04/2013 Discover jazz in poetry on the rooftops!

News

On Sunday, April 21st, the parks, courtyards and rooftops of Tallinn’s magical Old Town are filled with jazz and poetry! Helin-Mari Arder, Jelena Skulskaja, Jaan Pehk and many other beloved Estonian artists continue Jazzkaar’s tradition of free concerts in less known locations.

At 8 o’clock, ornithologist and organiser of Viru Folk, Peep Veedla will meet you at the Skane Bastion for a bird song tour around the parks of Old Town.

At 10 o’clock, the Hungarian Institute opens its courtyard, where with a nice warm cup of tea you can enjoy the symbiosis of the music of Odd Hugo and the poetry of Siim Kera.

At 11 o’clock Helin-Mari Arder with Eeva Park await you at the My City Hotel courtyard. You might catch a pancake while there, if you’re lucky.

Onwards to the Eduard Vilde monument on Harju street, where at 12 Siim Aimla and Jürgen Rooste boost your day with spicy music and sharp poetry.

At 13 the mixed-voice choir Noorus sings along the charismatic poetess Jelena Skulskaja at the Sleeping Beauty Castle (Okasroosikese loss).

The rooftop of the Maritime Museum’s Fat Margaret awaits you next. The musician and poet Jaan Pehk captivates you here at 2 o’clock. Get ready to climb a hundred steps and enjoy a nice spring breeze.

At 15 a special jazz painting will be born under your eyes in Kloostri Ait. Sally Stuudio will take inspiration from the music of Siim Aimla’s band to create a giant piece that can later be admired at the Marina Pavilion.

At 16 the dazzling singer Anneliis Kits along with Karl-Martin Sinijärv delight you in the park opposite the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design.

In case of rain the concerts will take place indoors at the same site. See www.jazzkaar.ee, Jazzkaar on Facebook or EMT Live App for more info.

The finale of the day will arrive at 17 with the only free concert to take place at the Marina Pavilion – Puzle from Viljandi have redressed the jazzy folk songs of Collage from the 1970s-80s.
