Christmas Jazz 2010 offers wonderful experiences through marvellous concerts from November 29th to December 17th in churches, clubs, theatre and concert halls throughout Estonia. The festival will feature musicians from Estonia, the USA, Turkey, Nigeria, Brazil, Portugal and several other countries. Tickets for the festival will be on sale from September 6th.

The festival will be opened on November 29th, when the stage of Russian Theatre will be filled by the Estonian Radio Children’s Choir, led by Kadri Hunt, performing their new routine of Tõnis Kõrvits’ songs. They will be joined by guest stars Ivo Linna and the legendary Teddy Bear Aabitsa-Mõmmi, famous from old children’s programs, played by Ivo Eensalu.

On December 1st in Kaarli church will perform the world-famous Take 6 – an 8-time Emmy award winning vocal band from the USA. The unique style of one of the absolute top vocal jazz bands in the world has a foundation wide enough to range from gospel to jazz to hiphop. At the core of their concert will be songs from the 2008 album The Standard as well as new tunes from the Christmas album to be released in December.

Portugese fado-flamenco nostalgia will be provided by singer Cristina Branco. A concert will be given in memory of one of the most unusual and unique performers of Jazzkaar – Joe Zawinul – by French musicians Marthe-Sellam-Lassus. Under church vaults you will have an opportunity to hear an exciting Turkish female sax-player Gilda Razani with her German band and a mellow English singer Tim Bowness with our own local band UMA. Rock Café will be the home of the captivating rythms from the black continent by the founder of afrobeat, the legendary Tony Allen and his musicians.

The winner of this spring’s prestigious Elion Jazz Award Raivo Tafenau will give a concert together with his long time stage partner Brazilian singer-guitarist Sergio Bastos. The concert will also be recorded by the Estonian National Television. The festival will aslo feature several Estonian musicians with music from their newest records – Ain Agan-Oleg Pissarenko, Liisi Koikson; Heini Vaikmaa with Mahavok will bring his newest instrumental album in front of the audience. The trio Sooäär-Andersen-Mathiesen, or in other words The Dynamite Vikings is full of surprises. Estonian stage classics flavoured with jazz will be performed by the trio Lauri Saatpalu-Raivo Tafenau-Peeter Rebane and the freshest vocals by Kadri Voorand trio.
