First Elion Jazz Award

The co-operation of Estonia’s biggest telecommunication and IT enterprise Elion and Estonian Jazz Union and Jazzkaar has lead to the creation of a new tradition – the first Elion Jazz Award!

The co-operation of Estonia’s biggest telecommunication and IT enterprise Elion and Estonian Jazz Union and Jazzkaar has lead to the creation of a new tradition – the first Elion Jazz Award!

The purpose of the award is recognizing the active and original jazzmusicians in Estonia and introducing them to wider audiences in Estonia. Jazz Award can be given to Estonian citizens, residents or ensembles who have been the most distinguishable with their creative activity during the last three years.

In addition to the recognization the award also contains 50 000 Kroons scholarship, a thematic sculpture made on special request by the prestigious Estonian sculptor Tiiu Kirsipuu and a recording possibility at Estonian Radio and Estonian Television.

Elion, Estonian Jazz Union and Jazzkaar will also give out The Young Jazz Talent Award, which is primarilly aimed at assessing the initiative and good level of young musicians and encouraging their undertakings.

The goal of The Young Jazz Talent Award is recognizing a young, up to 26 years old talented musician who has achieved something remarkable by doing a lot more than his/her peers usually do.

The winner of the award gets a souvenir from Elion, a recording possibility at Estonian Radio, PR consultation with a photo session and the chance of performing at a Jazzkaar concert within a year.

Musicians who got the first year 2007 Jazz Award will be announced at the concert of jazz ambassador Archie Shepp (USA) at Russian Cultural Centre on Friday, 27th of April 2007.
