JazzTimes valis 2005. a mõjukamad plaadid

26. jaanuar 2006

Ajakirja JazzTimes kriitikute hinnangul oli möödunud aasta kõige paremaks jazzplaadiks Thelonius Monki kvarteti ja John Coltrane´i kontserdisalvestus, mille algmaterjal leiti juhuslikult ajalehekuulutuse peale.

Prestiizhikas USA jazziajakiri JazzTimes koondas oma kriitikute valikutest pingerea 2005. aastal ilmunud tähelepanuväärsematest heliplaatidest.

Olulisimaks plaadiks valitud Thelonius Monki ja Joh Coltrane´i kontserdisalvestus on mitmeti eriline. Tegemist on 2005. aasta veebruaris tänu neli aastat varem New York Amsterdam News´is ilmunud kuulutusele.
Jazziajaloolase Larry Applebaumi hinnangul pole seda salvestist kunagi avalikult raadios mängitud. Kontsert toimus 1957. aastal Carnegie Hallis. Ehkki Monki ja Coltrane´i koostöö oli toona tihe ja sisukas, on sellest vähe säilinud. Tegemist on tõelise hittplaadiga, mille helikvaliteet on kriitikute sõnul suurepärane.
