John Scofield, although often referred to as “Sco”, has built a solid reputation as one of the greatest jazz guitarists in the world. With over two hundred concerts and seventy seven recorded albums under his belt, the American guitarist has played alongside great artists such as Miles Davis, Dave Liebman, Pat Metheny, John Meyer and plenty more. His style cannot be described as fitting in a single category, as his talents can be describes as funk, rock, soul, jazz fusion and blues.


After completing his education at Berklee School of Music, John Scofield joined Billy Cobham and George Duke in a band for two years in the early 1970s He continued to pursue different styles and bands throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s, starting with funky jazz and dabbling in multiple rock and blues bands throughout the years. It was after an extensive music career that his style returned to its jazzy roots, and he continues to perform and impress audiences worldwide, and is also a faculty member in the Jazz Department at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Education.


This year at Jazzkaar 2015, the American guitar virtuoso will be accompanied by Louisina based blues and jazz musician Jon Cleary. Originally from Kent, England, the talent vocalist and pianist has been an avid student of the musical culture and life of New Orleans for over twenty years. His talents have landed him alongside music luminaries such as Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, B.B. King, and Ryan Adams. With so much experience and talent, John Scofield and John Cleary will be performing together in a fantastic fusion of funky jazz and soulful vocals; combining modern jazz with the blues roots of New Orleans.
