Counted among the world’s most dynamic and exciting of jazz trios, the Anglo-Scandinavian group Phronesis are known for capturing the minds of their audience with spine-tingling performances. They have been nominated twice for the prestigious MOBO awards in the category for best jazz ensemble. Founded in 2005, the trio consists of British pianist Ivo Neame, Danish double bassist Jasper Høiby and Norwegian drummer Anton Eger. Their undeniable chemistry and explosive rhythmic energy have brought Phronesis to the stages of the world from Morocco to Brazil and from Australia to North-America.

Phronesis’ impressive discography amounts to 8 albums, the newest of which was released in the September of this year. Last year “The Behemoth” was recorded with the Frankfurt Radio Big Band, where composed Julian Argüelles arranged some of the band’s best-known creations for the orchestra.

The group cites a democratic creation process and mutual understanding as the basis for the ensemble’s energy and unique sound – as evident in the harmony between the groovy piano- and basslines, united by underlying impulsive, catchy rhythms. With their newest material, the group wishes to extend their work ethic and philosophy of universal understanding and peace to new audiences, which will now also include the audience of Christmas Jazz 2018.
