11/12/2014 HARLEM SPIRIT OF GOSPEL FEAT ANTHONY MORGAN: A SUGAR RUSH FOR A SUNDAY EVENING

News Pilarica Martin

The emotional group from New York Harlem Spirit of Gospel singers and the lead singer Anthony Morgan awaked Estonians with their energy in the rainy evening of 7th of December at Kaarli Church.

Those singers knew how to catch the audience from the first song. They started singing all together to give way to each one’s solo, starting with a Christmas song and followed by “Imagine one”. The third song was sang twice after Anthony Morgan said that the Sister tuned it in a grace way, but at home she did different, so the public started to claim the home version. It was when spectators’ jaw dropped open with this Sister’s voice range and when she was walking elegantly through the corridor, involving people and giving goose bump with her singing.

The audience was a part of the spectacle with clapping hands, standing up and making the chorus, where the leader improvised texts giving instructions to the two sides of the corridor in order to make them respond. And even in the last song, people got on the stage to sing all together “Oh, happy day”. So children, teenagers and adults were accompanying this American church group in the end of the warm-hearted show.

Their way of performance is involving every-day people with freely structured songs, dance, and improvisational music, emotional and musical delivery of prayers. The concert was like a sugar rush for the end of the week for people of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
