17/04/2013 Urban City Project breaks into the city routine for the 4th time

News

During the whole Jazzkaar there are many cool jazz concerts in the urban environment – in public transport, on squares and streets, at the airport and harbour. Musicians, artists, dancers and random audience members create opportunities for exciting concerts and participation options. Every concert is unique and the outcome, the thrill depends on the musicians, on place and weather, on participants and audience.

Urban City Project musicians are saxophonist Siim Aimla, who has been with the Urban City Project from the start, versatile percussionists Reigo Ahven and Doug Hough, Brazilian guitarist Eduardo Agni, the band Abraham’s Cafe, mixed choir Noorus and Georg Ots’ Music School, Heino Eller’s Tartu Music School, University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy’s music students. Other performers are from the choreography students of Tallinn University and youngsters of Sally studio.

For the past years, the favourite venues to suddenly perform are, of course, in the beautiful Old Town. Keep your eyes open on Harju, Viru and Vana-Turu Street – it might be that you can walk on a red carpet, pop through a jam session or participate in the jazz procession. It is also good idea to check the Jazz Window of My City Hotel where lately many guitar players are spotted. Constant vigilance!

For travellers, Urban City Project comes to the check-in area both in airport and in the harbour’s A and D Terminals. Musicians travel by trams, chanting their slogan „Tram ride wins time!“

In secret – there will be two surprise visits to two schools in Tallinn during their lunch hour. A flash mob – or should it be jazz mob – takes place in Viru Centre – another sudden happening in the busiest shopping area.

On 19th and 20th April at 1pm the lunch concerts will take place at Cafe KAI (Sadama 25/4) and from 22nd to 26th April different music school ensembles perform at Theatre NO99 Jazz Club.

In collaboration with restaurant Bollywood a ’Pop-up Jazz lunch’ takes place on 22nd April from 12-2pm in Rotermann quarter. Food and drinks will be served from the Bollywood summer restaurant menu and a band led by Siim Aimla perform.
