Nõmme Jazz 7th Young Jazz Artists Competition victories went to Danish singer Mette Juul and Finnish sax player Pauliina Pohjolainen. See the results.

The final round of Nõmme Jazz VII International Young Jazz Artists Competition took place on Saturday, May 19. Nine young musicians were competing in two categories: vocalists (six competitors) and saxophonists (three competitors). They had successfully shown their talents in the semi-final the day before, when five saxophonists and nine vocalists competed.

Competitors were evaluated by international jury in personnel: Tõnis Kõrvits, Nõmme Jazz; Maris Briezkalns, Rigas Ritmi; Osku Rajala, Lady Summertime; Kimmo Hyyppä, Turku Jazz and Pori Jazz; Önder Focan, Nardis Jazz Club; Anne Erm, Jazzkaar; Sirje Ginter, Ladies In Jazz; Raul Sööt, Juu Jääb.
The chairman of the jury Anne Erm said that the level of the competition has noticeably raised. Jazzkaar festival invited even two participants to perform for 2008.

In collation at the vocalists category the first prize went to Mette Juul from Denmark, the second prize went to Kristina Svolkinaite from Lithuania and for the second year the third position went to Estonian young singer Kadri Voorand.

At saxophonists category the winner with superior vantage was Pauliina Pohjolainen from Finland who distinguished from other saxophonists with strong and original creativity and also the with the highest level of professionalism. The second place went to Meric Demirkol from Turkey and the third place to Aleksander Paal from Narva town. The representative of our nearest north neighbours Pauliina Pohjolainen also enchanted the audience and therefore won the title of audience favourite.

Nõmme Jazz renders thanks to the jury, Siim Aimla accompanying band, the participants, volunteer-helpers and supporters for the great success of the event.

Nõmme Jazz Young Artists Competition is opened to vocalists and saxophonists between the age of 18 and 35. The participating young musicians of this year’s competition are from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Turkey, and for the first time from Sweden and Denmark.
