At the opening concert of Autumn Jazz, we are thrilled to welcome composer, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist Argo Vals to the stage as he presents his short album Lavendel, released this May. For this special performance, Vals will be joined on stage by an acoustic guitar trio, vocalist Kitty Florentine, and synth wizard Galaktlan. The captivating music will be enhanced by visuals from Alyona Movko.
Lavendel is a short album of six compositions, centred around the acoustic guitar. Its contemplative, finely crafted music is marked by sparse, organic production. With a deliberately minimalist soundscape, Lavendel stands in sharp contrast to Vals’s previous, richly textured and predominantly electronic album In Loving Memory Of, signalling a new creative direction. And it sounds absolutely beautiful! Alongside Kitty Florentine and Galaktlan, the concert lineup at Autumn Jazz will feature Karl Petti, who also played on the album, as well as Sulo Kiivit and Siim Kartau on nylon-string guitars, specially invited by Argo to join this performance.
Although Argo Vals’s first instrument is the guitar, he has also deeply explored the vibrant realms of drum machines and synthesisers. Alongside his solo albums – Tsihcier, Nokturn, and In Loving Memory Of – he has composed music for numerous dance productions over the past 15 years and has collaborated, and continues to collaborate, with artists such as Karl Petti, Imandra Lake, Pia Fraus, and Kaschalot, among others. His sonic world is defined by a distinctive blend of airiness and intensity, groove, and a relentless pursuit of new sound textures.
