One hundred years since the birth of Antônio Carlos Jobim, the legendary figure of bossa nova! Paying tribute to Jobim and the genre that put Brazil on the global music map are Paula Morelenbaum, a contemporary Brazilian bossa nova superstar who knows his music inside out, and her daughter Dora Morelenbaum, who captivated a sold-out Jazzkaar audience in 2025.

Stan Getz, Oscar Peterson, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan and many others performed Jobim’s beautiful bossa novas, with their sophisticated harmonic language, soon after the genre emerged. His music has also influenced the development of Estonian popular music. In the 1960s, a “Jobim wave” swept through Estonia: Estonian composers wrote their first bossa novas, while beloved singers made several of his melodies famous here, too, some 10,000 kilometres away from Brazil.

Singer Paula Morelenbaum is one of the great figures of bossa nova and an icon in Brazil. For more than a decade, she toured with Jobim’s outstanding ensemble Nova Banda, sang with the legendary Quarteto Jobim-Morelenbaum, and travelled the world countless times with the Morelenbaum/Sakamoto trio and Bossarenova Trio. Paula Morelenbaum’s delicate yet captivating voice enchants audiences. Critics have praised the subtle melancholy of her interpretations, which capture the very essence of bossa nova.

Singer-songwriter Dora Morelenbaum is one of the most exciting young talents emerging from Brazil’s new music scene. Alongside her solo project, she is a member of Bala Desejo, a quartet that has won a Latin Grammy Award.

Alongside Jobim’s timeless classics, the Jazzkaar concert will also feature music by one of the brightest talents of Brazil’s new generation. Her beautiful songs feel like unexpectedly reconnecting with an old friend: at once familiar and full of the joy of discovery.
