It is Telliskivi Creative City’s birthday! To celebrate the anniversary and bring Jazzkaar to an end at the same time, Anne Veski & Lexsoul Dancemachine brought a huge crowd to Von Krahl. The room was filled with joy, funky beats and legendary vocals for the epic ending.
When I first heard about the concert, the combination of Lexsoul Dancemachine’s groovy beats and highly respected Anne Veski felt like it would make for an exciting evening. That same idea seemed to have drawn a full house. Even the chairs at the very back were almost filled. The crowd was lively and ready to dance before the artists even stepped on stage.
Lexsoul Dancemachine has always been known for its artistic performances, funky beats, and a concert experience that gets hips moving. The whole band sounds amazing together. Robert Linna leads the vocals, while Joonas Mattias Sarapuu on keyboards shapes the overall sound to perfection.
The band fits naturally on stage and entertains not only through music but through their presence as performers. At one point, Linna takes over the keyboards and even plays with his leg. Kristen Kütner gets the crowd even more energized with a guitar solo. When Lexsoul Dancemachine urges everyone to get down, almost the entire crowd follows.
Anne Veski is an elegant performer on her own, but how will she fit in with the funky beats? We’ll find out soon. As it is Telliskivi Creative City’s birthday, Linna explains that usually people bring gifts to such celebrations. “What would be a better gift than the crown jewel of Estonian music?” he shouts.
Anne Veski steps on stage and her glittering jacket sparkles in the stage light. “The boys told me they have suits, so I put one on as well. They said they have glasses and so do I,” she says. The crowd has been waiting for this moment. When the first notes of her legendary “Hea tuju laul” fill the room, everyone begins to sing along.
Anne Veski receives roses from the audience during several breaks between songs. She is one of those artists in Estonia whom everyone truly loves. Her voice and songs blend surprisingly well with Lexsoul Dancemachine’s style – they bring out the best in each other. Together, they perform many well-known songs from Veski’s repertoire.
The crowd refuses to let them finish, and we are treated to a reprise of “Hea tuju laul”. It feels even more cheerful this time, as Veski moves across the stage, highlighting each musician.
After bows and waves, the audience is still not satisfied. Without hesitation, Lexsoul Dancemachine returns to the stage, getting everyone jumping and dancing through the final songs. The energy lingers even after the concert ends. I imagine many are still replaying the funky beats and remembering the final night of Jazzkaar with gratitude.
