Legend. Guitar virtuoso. Prolific composer. Grammy winner. Bill Frisell returns to captivate the Jazzkaar audience with a program that blends his original compositions with hand-picked gems from the vast world of jazz. Joining Frisell on stage in Tallinn is violist Eyvind Kang – Frisell’s longtime mentor, teacher, spiritual companion, and dear friend. Together, they create music that feels like a dialogue between silence and colour – intuitive, tender, and quietly transcendent.
Bill Frisell is an undisputed legend of the music world – an icon of the ECM and Blue Note labels. Revered by jazz musicians, pop artists, and avant-gardists alike, Frisell’s music transcends all boundaries. A true master of tone, harmony, and melody, he moves effortlessly between folk, blues, rock, jazz, and classical music, embracing each with equal affection.
A prolific artist, Bill Frisell has released or co-released 85 albums, and his distinctive guitar sound can be heard on more than a hundred recordings – not only in jazz, but also alongside artists such as Elvis Costello, Marianne Faithfull, Keith Richards, Brian Eno, Lou Reed, and Sting. He is the subject of the acclaimed documentary Bill Frisell: A Portrait, which features reflections on his artistry from, among others, Jim Hall and Paul Simon. Frisell’s recent albums – HARMONY (2019), Valentine (2020), FOUR (2022), and Orchestras (2024) – mark his fruitful collaboration with the Blue Note label. Ever creative and continually evolving, his most recent composition, created with Thomas Morgan, was released in October 2025.
Eyvind Kang is one of today’s most original and captivating violists, whose artistry is showcased on more than 50 albums. His mastery shines through both his solo recordings and his collaborations with an eclectic range of artists, including Sun City Girls, Secret Chiefs, Blonde Redhead, Robin Holcomb, Laurie Anderson, Sunn O))), and many others. Kang’s compositions have been performed at major festivals and concert halls around the world, earning praise for his ability to fuse seemingly contrasting musical worlds – from mandolins and tablas to big band arrangements and heavy soundscapes.
“We are both fearless explorers, and I look forward with great excitement to our next musical adventures together!” says Bill Frisell in anticipation of their performance at Jazzkaar.
