Maria Faust’s newest work titled “Si Vis Amari, Ama ” is by her own words a journey of a woman’s life– her growing up, maturing, her emotions at different stages of life. It can be considered a reflection of our current society, with a touch of humour and hope. Faust’s new piece is diverse, though of rather classical style.

Estonian composers have rarely ever written music for the chamber orchestra and recorder, yet this combination is intriguing and beautiful and Maria Faust does a wonderful job interpreting it. The orchestra and recorder are joined by the saxophone, offering new exciting emotions.

Acclaimed Danish recorder player Michala Petri has achieved much throughout her 50 years of experience as a musician: she has performed at nearly 5000 concerts, partaken in the recordings of 70 albums. She is notably one of the few women ever to win a Léonie Sonning music prize. Her repertoire includes pieces from baroque, classical and romantic periods as well as contemporary music.

Maria Faust is one of the most internationally recognized Estonian jazz artists, who has tied her work with the more experimental side of jazz. Faust has been awarded with countless prizes in Estonia and Denmark, including Jazz Artist of the Year in 2016 and Jazz Composer of the Year in 2014 and 2019. Her creative career can be divided into two: the first half is punklike, conflicting, even aggressive at times, the latter half is pensive and influenced by Estonian folk music and religious music. Faust is also a professor of composition at Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen.

Tallinn Chamber Orchestra was established in 1993 by conductor Tõnu Kaljuste. The orchestra has played in some of the worlds’ best known concert halls, including New York’s Carnegie Hall and the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing. Tallinn Chamber Orchestra is also featured on Arvo Pärt’s album Adam’s Lament which won them a Grammy award in 2014.
