American jazz star Cécile McLorin Salvant to perform at Christmas Jazz on 30 November at Alexela Concert Hall in Tallinn
The three-time Grammy winner and star of the new generation, Cécile McLorin Salvant will perform in Estonia for the first time. Tickets are on sale from today, with 30% discount for early birds.
Cécile McLorin Salvant’s powerful character combines an intimate and soulful style of expression with interplay of elegance, sensuality and depth in her voice. She is one of the most dazzling representatives of contemporary vocal jazz. “Estonian listeners have been waiting for this special young star for three years. Cécile McLorin Salvant’s concert with pianist Sullivan Fortner was scheduled for the 2020 Jazzkaar, but the global pandemic cancelled all concerts. It is an even greater pleasure now to present Cécile with her ensemble, playing music from her most recent LP, Mélusine, which is wide-ranging historically and emotionally as well as in terms of genre. At the concert you will hear songs composed over ten centuries, from troubadour songs to French chansons. Passionate, creative, theatrical and witty – Cécile is an uncompromising expander of the boundaries of vocal jazz,” Anne Erm introduces the jazz star.
The singer is deservedly considered one of the most brilliant contemporary jazz vocalists, praised for her masterful vocal technique, wide vocal range, individual style of presentation and searchingness. Her ability to connect the past with the present convincingly brings to life both forgotten gems and modern urban tones.
Cécile McLorin Salvant will tour Australia and Europe in October and November, giving the final concert of ther tour and also the only concert in the Nordic countries at the Christmas Jazz festival in Tallinn.
Christmas Jazz 2023 will take place from 29 November to 15 December. The full programme will be announced in early October. Keep an eye on Jazzkaar’s activities on our website, Facebook page and Instagram. Tickets are on sale at Piletikeskus from 7 September at 9 am.
