There aren’t too many recordings from the parties where Victoria Spivey, Willie Dixon, Ma Rainey, Louis Jordan, B. B. King and many other blues legends performed. For a long time, such music simply wasn’t considered worthy of recording. The electrifying energy of the blues nights and the feeling of rapport between the musicians and the audience have only reached us through descriptions and rare live recordings.

The Saturday night blues parade is inspired by B.B. King’s 1965 concert event Live at the Regal and Victoria Spivey’s 1970 Blues Parade. The aim of a true blues parade is to delight those tired from the workweek and get bodies moving, to offer strong emotions, laughter, heartache, passion, nostalgia and revelry. Kaisa Ling Thing and guest artists take the task of moving people seriously, performing a dynamic programme inspired by the evolution of blues over a century and a half: classics from various parts of the USA, from the South and the North, from early 20th-century New Orleans and mid-century Chicago, but also from Tartu and Tallinn, where enthusiasts and disciples have brought the moving impulse of the blues to 21st-century Estonia. Taking the stage will be experienced and confident musicians, playing on the audience’s emotions with both familiar and hidden means, resulting in a unique sense of togetherness, almost like 35 years ago…
