Jazzkaar 2010 – the biggest jazz celebration conquers the city and country from 23nd of April to 2nd of May.
For the 21st time International festival Jazzkaar will present the best sounds of today’s jazz to Estonian jazz-lovers. More than 40 concert during 10 days with performers from Europe, America and Asia. The headliners of Jazzkaar 2010 are highly acclaimed jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves (USA), the legendary keyboard wizard George Duke (USA), the open-minded bassist and composer Avishai Cohen (Israel) and the Spanish new fusion-flamenco star Concha Buika.
In addition to the featured artists, the programme of Jazzkaar 2010 includes jazz guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel from Austria, guitarist Ulf Wakenius and vocalist Lina Nyberg from Sweden, German trombone player Nils Wogram, noisy quartet Ploctones from Netherlands, pianist Leszek Moždžer from Poland, singer Youn Sun Nah from Korea, Japanese club music project JazzTronik, 13-year old pianist Gadi Lehavi from Israel and many more.
Festival will start with an opening party with performers like DJ Alexander Barck from Jazzanova, energetic Jean Louis Trio from France and with the new Estonian groove-band Lin’s System.
Many young talented Estonian musicians are participating in the Festival this year – Kristjan Mazurchak, Marti Tärn, Kadri Voorand, Peedu Kass, Kristjan Randalu, Tuuli Taul etc. European Broadcasting Union will broadcast the concert of Villu Veski – Tiit Kalluste quintet „The Best of Nordic Sounds“ and in addition of that, number of concerts will be broadcasted locally by Klassikaraadio.
Traditionally the Sunday of Art and Music will take place on the 25 th of April, when music lovers can visit concerts in various museums and art gallerys in Tallinn. Kirtana Rasa, Helin-Mari Arder, Eva Mitreikina and Sergei Pedersen are among the performers of these art’n’music concerts. Also a concert of Jazzpainting and the morning birdsong concert will happen.
Fourth year in a row we are celebrating the Jazz Month during the April. The aim is to bring jazz closer to the widest audience possible. Many activities are planned, like the exhibition of jazzposters, public interviews with Estonian jazzmusicians, jazzbrunches, the concert of Jazz Painting, Jazz Cinema etc. This year’s jazz ambassador will be Dianne Reeves, who will present Estonian Jazz Awards. The Jazz Award will recognize a distinguished jazz musician, a young talent and to a jazz promoter.
The gold sponsor for the festival is the Estonian biggest telecommunications company Elion, which will also present the Jazz Awards.
